This shot is abridged from the documentary “Viaggio tra i segreti e i tesori di Ostia antica” (trip into the secrets and the treasures of Ancient Ostia) by Alberto Angela.

We are taken to visit a bar (lat. popina) in the ancient harbour of Rome, Ostia. We can first see earthenware jugs (lat. dolia) as big as to contain lt. 1000 of wine each, a counter and shelves where to keep pitchers and pots, 2 basins to wash dishes and glasses, and a sign, a fresco showing customers what they could enjoy there, food, basically legumes and vegetables, wine and music.

There was also an inner garden with tables where they could sit to be served and even gamble.
